3 tips for smashing your goals this year….
The calendar has now flipped to 2020, but do you have a clear idea of your goals for the New Year? It doesn’t matter which goals – your career, your love life or your desire to get the bangin’ body you deserve – it’s time to get them crystal clear in your mind. Here are three ways to bring them into focus.
No. 1 Meditate on your deepest desires
Mainstream folks used to think meditation was ‘hippy dippy’, something you could only do if you had dreadlocks or wore an orange robe. Not so! Meditation is so 2020 and everyone’s doing it. You should too.
How to: Find a quiet, private place. Get comfy and close your eyes. Take a few deep breaths and feel where your body is experiencing any sensations. Focus on those instead of the outside world. After a couple of minutes, bring into your mind’s eye what your goals are. The first few times you meditate, only spend five minutes then gradually increase it until you notice the clutter clearing in your mind and can truly see yourself achieving your prized goals. Don’t forget to write down the key points afterwards.
No. 2 Whack up a vision board
Keynote speaker and pretty much our guru, Chelsea Pottenger of EQ Minds is such a big believer in vision boards that she offers a program to help guide you through the process. A vision board is a super clever self-improvement tool that uses visualisation and the power of your imagination to turn wishes into realities. After all, finding a genie lamp on the beach is kind of unlikely! Goals are much easier to reach when you can see them. Daydream a little, make real plans and set yourself 5-10 points to achieve on your path to your own version of superstardom.
How to: Think of your vision board as a scrapbook. You can make an actual board and keep it at your desk or on your wall and stick pictures, quotes and other cool things on it. Or, use Pinterest and whenever something inspires you online, pin it to your board. Visit your Pinterest every day.
No. 3 Get into positive self-talk
Athletes use positive self-talk to strive towards personal bests. You can use it in your life too. It takes practice but the payoff is worth it. Rather than just thinking, speak up because it engages the brain more powerfully. Or, buy yourself a gorgeous journal and write down your positive self-talk. Don’t allow anything negative in that book so whenever you look at it, there’s only good stuff to read!
How to: Replace negative self-talk with its positive version. When you notice yourself saying “I knew I wouldn’t get asked to that meeting”, replace it with “lucky I didn’t have to attend that meeting; now I can smash my deadline”. When you face challenges, stand in front of a mirror and talk to yourself like a best friend. Smile too! In the car, turn off the music, shut out the world and have a good chat with yourself about what your goals are and why you deserve to achieve them.
Goal setting is a must to get what we want! It can also be fun and it’s especially rewarding when you achieve a goal and look back and see that you made it happen for yourself!
