Now we aren’t here to scaremonger you, promise! However, not taking the time to ensure you are hiring the right people to work within your business can genuinely have devastating effects, and we want you to understand why!

Not only is signing the paperwork for the wrong employee going to cost you ridiculous amounts of money (think advertising fees, relocation fees, temp staff, salary payments and legal fees) but, the effect that having the wrong person for your team on moral, customer retention, brand exposure and management frustrations is not something you want to be up against if you can avoid it (seriously people, this is why we are here!).

But, why does it keep happening?

Saying all of the above though, for some reason doesn’t seem to be enough to convince some businesses that recruitment isn’t everyone’s game (we all have a skillset, guys, please just let us own this one!). But why?

Interviewing people correctly to ensure you are getting all of the information that you need is a skill. And, the reality is, not everybody is good at it! Also, a lot of companies lack a standardised and consistent approach to interviewing (and sadly those companies are often the ones that make poor choices).

There is also the common occurrence of businesses having to hire someone immediately (often with sudden departures without notice or handover periods). This then leads to the misconception that if a candidate isn’t 100% correct that they can always be trained on the job. Anybody is better than no body… right? (not necessarily, no)

And finally, another misconception is that recruitment agencies are “expensive” and in today’s world of cutting a dollar wherever you can… well, some business have sadly failed to value us! You might save a dollar in the beginning but imagine how out of pocket you’re going to be if you get it wrong! (worth it… probably not)
