5 ways to improve your workplace vibe that staff will really dig

Wait, this ain’t the seventies, man. You won’t find ashtrays on the desks or glass balls in macramé ropes hanging from the ceiling! But a cool vibe in the workplace should always be in fashion! What’s your jam? Is it sterile and soul-less or pimped-up and productivity-powering? If you want to keep your posse happy and keep the moolah flowing in, and you don’t have a feng shui consultant on speed dial, then it’s time to do a little housekeeping!

1.      “Show me the moneyyyyy!”

Ever seen that trick where whenever someone makes a sale or books an appointment, they run over to the corner of the room to ring a bell? Make it happen! It’s truly amazing how a bit of healthy competition can lift the workplace vibe. Or set up a whiteboard where everyone can see it and get staff to tick off their nailed targets!

2.      Pump up the energy!

2pm slumps are for chumps! Make a time every day to “pump it up”, even for just two minutes! Turn up the music and lights, ring a bell, have a little dance, do single-song karaoke and have staff take it in turns each day to belt out their favourite number! Watch the arvo’s productivity soar!

3.      Pimp your cubicle

Cubicle, office, tea room … whatevz. Get your staff to bring in photos, their favourite chair cushion, coffee mug or pet rock. Think of it as a comfort blankie to get through tough deadlines, or a conversation starter that isn’t gossip! Ya feel me?

4.      Install anti-toxin devices (aka plants)

What’s toxic in a workplace? Germs, artificial lighting, bad moods … so much! Designate a day for everyone to bring in their choice of plant. It could be a big fat succulent in a jar of dirt, a pot of basil or parsley (but not other popular 1970s’ “herbs”!) or a vase of home-grown flowers. It’ll add a bit of nature to the joint and plants really do help to filter bad juju!

5.      Pet projects

At Appoint, we have our most treasured little beloveds at our feet every day. Our fur babies come to work with us and as a result, the vibe in here is happy, busy and supremely friendly. Reckon your staff could bring in their goldfish, their kitty or their turtle?
